In 1965, in order to meet the needs of the development of diplomatic career in the early days of the founding of new China, Guangzhou Institute of foreign studies took root in southern Guangdong. In 1980, facing the spring breeze of reform and opening up, Guangzhou Institute of foreign trade came into being. In 1995, the two schools combined to form Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and foreign trade. In 2008, Guangdong Vocational College of Finance and economics was incorporated into Guangdong foreign studies. In 2020, Guangzhou University of foreign studies was established in Huangpu The Research Institute (Huangpu Graduate School) settled in Zhongxin Guangzhou Knowledge City.
